Fasting for my soul.
Fasting is not an unknown concept for me. I have seen my grandmother fasting all the time. It’s a way of life back home in my country. I have been a foodie all my life and used to hesitate at the idea of fasting growing up.
In my youth, I tried to fast several times but gave up since I used to get terrible headaches and feel nausea in just three hours of not eating anything. I decided not to fast ever in my life again.
Fast forward later, things changed for the better. I started fasting in my thirties to lose weight since I was growing fatter and had to do something about it. Change is inevitable.
How did I get into the flow of fasting?
While I was striving to make a few habitual changes in my lifestyle, I thought of giving fasting a try. It wasn’t easy at all. Many times I failed to follow through with the routine. So, I came up with a plan that involved some trial and error.
I did not think I would be able to stay without eating for that long. It sounded impossible. Nonetheless, I wanted to give it a try. To initiate my fasting routine, I decided to start very slowly. The first thing I wanted to do is reduce a meal portion in the day. So, have a heavy breakfast and then a light lunch like a salad at around noon. Then dinner at 8 with a very light snack in between.
I wasn’t yet fasting for real. This plan did not go very well and I ended up eating a scrumptious snack after lunch, as I got too hungry by 5:00 in the evening. Then I tried skipping lunch altogether for about three days a week. That did not go well either. I ended up having a very hearty dinner. This went on for two months and did not really see any change in my weight.
