Why France Changed Its Flag Colour

France’s recent decision to change its color has raised a lot of questions.

Has the French flag changed recently? If you feel you failed to notice, don’t worry. Even many of the French officials didn’t notice. Why is there a need for change in flag color, and what does it symbolize

The modern French flag took its shape from the French revolution. The French revolution arose the French citizens against the Bourbon royal family, which resulted in the death of many aristocracy and ordinary citizens. The revolution sowed the seed for democracy in France, and the revolutionaries’ flag became the flag of France. The blue-white and red trio has been the French flag for 200 years.

The French President Emmanuel Macron changed the blue in the French flag to a darker shade of blue. The change came about a year ago, and many didn’t notice it. As the issue gained traction, the French government responded that Emmanuel Macron had changed the color. Macron felt that the darker blue is more closer to the revolution flag. He also added that the European Union flag, which is also light blue, overshadowed the French flag’s blue.

The second statement arose more questions like whether France wants to distinguish itself from European Union. Many suggest that the color change is just a political stunt for the election next year, as Macron will face right-wing leader Marine le Pen.
