Awakened Humans

I read an article on Twitter earlier today (I cannot relocate it) that was challenging what it cited as ‘the myth of human-centered design.’

Now my immediate reaction, for a moment, was immediate dismissal.

However, the messaging was valid and I knew it.

There IS a danger in the language around the term human-centered. Much of the lack of connectivity and community over the past generations, to me, comes from humanity, myself, being ‘too human-centered in a way,’ i.e self-centered.

A term came up for me ‘in the moment’ today around ‘awakened humans’ and this seems to be more relevant than human-centered.

I have spoken over the past months about my awakening which has shown up in a variety of forms over the past 2 years including:

What is so interesting about my fears, my mental health challenge, my lack of self-worth after being bullied, is that none of it was causal.

None of these situations outside of me actually ‘caused’ me to feel the way I did.

It was my thinking about myself in the moment at the point of those experiences occurring, or indeed the over-thinking after them occurring, that caused them.

This clarity, this awakening, is actually incredibly freeing.

To know that our emotions, our human experience, is 100% within our influence is so powerful, but it does mean choice and it does mean stepping away from being a victim.

Awakened-Humans

I typed the term awakened human into google and this great compilation from Russell Brand came up:

The term ‘awakened-human’ seems more appropriate than ‘human-centered’ as by us becoming awakened means considering all elements of our internal and external environment i.e. nature, our thinking, workplaces etc

Before having my own awakening as explained above, I was just not able to sense or empathise on this wider systemic basis. I just didn’t see it.

I am not there yet

I still take long-haul flights, personally and at work.

I have a nice car with a 2.5 litres engine.

But I am much more conscious today, in a variety of areas of my life, compared with even 12 months ago.

Today, Awakened-Human approaches to all areas of life seem more true and relevant to me personally than human-centered design.

This is more than a language issue.

This is is a choice issue and I choose awakened humans over human-centered from today.
