Hush

Quiet. Still. Listen.

You do not have to be active in a moment to make it valid. In fact, you do not give any moment in time its validity.

There is much good to see and to hear and to feel; not all good is to be done. You have leave to sit, to sleep, to be static, and to enjoy it.

What is stopping you? Are you afraid that you will lose your own value if you cease creating value?

Are you afraid to hear what the soft voice of your heart will speak in the silence?

It’s worth listening to.

You might be surprised at what you hear. Perhaps self-condemnation is not the only voice to be heard. After it has spoken its piece, maybe there will be a softer one that speaks of sweeter things, like love.

Love that does not depend on reciprocation. That is unaffected by you because it has so little to do with you, and is all about you.

Love that stays.

Maybe it will speak of acceptance. Not because you qualify for it, or because you deserve it, but because of a decision that was made independently of you. Acceptance that is stronger and more valid because it does not require certain behavior.

The kind of love and acceptance that draw you into gratefulness and repentance.

Some kinds of love say more about the giver than the subject (take a look at Proverbs 27:19).

You see, there is a far greater Voice that speaks through the soft voice of your heart if you quiet yourself enough to listen. This Voice is the source of irrational love and acceptance.

“Then He said, ‘Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord.’ And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice. So it was, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood in the entrance of the cave. Suddenly a voice came to him, and said, ‘What are you doing here, Elijah?’”

(1 Kings 19:11–13)
