Who is a God like you?

February 10, 2019 (Bible Devotional)

God delights in mercy. It is his good pleasure to give good gifts to his children. He desires their very best. Even a healthy earthly parent will want the best for their child. They will not wish that their children grow up to be useless to society. Instead, they pray that their child might benefits society by inventing someting, or solving a problem, a finding a cure to a disease, and so forth. How much more does God want to show mercy to his children?

When we asked good things from God, He will not hesitate to grant our petition. He delights in mercy. We can forever pray for the godly character. We can petition him for the forgiveness of sin. We can pray with boldness in time of need. God delight in answering our petition. He desires to show in mercy and love towards us. He brings pleasure to God when his children are happy.

God does not retain his anger towards us. He is slow to anger, yet rich in mercy. When Jesus breaks the merchandising in the temple at Jerusalem, we see him a few minutes later healing the sick and teaching the searching soul in the temple. In the same manner, God’s anger is not directed at us but at our actions. The same one who chastises us considers us as His sons and daughters.

He longs to gather us under his wings. He wants to provide us with a shelter in the time of the storm. There is no creature that we equaled the love of God towards mankind. He daily loads us with heavenly benefits. He watches over us with care. He extends his banner of love as he shield us. His anger is but for a moment to show to us the foolishness of the human heart.

God pardons all our iniquity. He forgives all our sins. Not only does he forgive on the surface. He actually treats us as if we never sin. He sees as precious jewels, a worthy treasure. He is willing to give himself on our behalf. He died for our good. We are the purchase of his dear son.

God does not hold grudges. He does not keep tabs. God does not follow a three strikes policy. He forgives. He does not pass trangression from generation to the next. The children will not suffer from the iniquities of their parents. The righteousness of the parents will not pass on the children. Each of us has a clean slate before God. And when he forgives us the slate is cleansed anew.

Our God is unrivaled. Nothing can compare to him in character in grandeur and in power. He is compassionate. He loves to uttermost all that come to him. He forgives and transforms. He does not require penitence. The sacrifices agreeable to him is that of a contrite heart. He is a good father, that delights in mercy.
