Panic

On dealing with anxiety in public.

Dark concrete, cool against my back,

Shade envelopes me.

Hot hands pulse around my neck,

Air siphons in through frantic gulps.

Rushing bodies, faceless. They can’t see me,

Invisible forces slam me backward, keeping me from escape.

Water drops on my hand, breaking the spell.

I wipe it away and look up,

Skies are clear blue.
