The internet lies to us about the truth of productivity.

What tasks qualify as productive?

As someone that is interested in bio hacking and becoming a better version of myself, I’ve tried a handful of productivity “hacks” that include the above.

Anytime I looked for the secrets to becoming wildly successful and happy, a list similar to the one above popped up.

So, is that the secret to being ultra productive, successful and happy?

I don’t think so.

Recently I came to the realization that productivity is not what the books tell me it is. And, it is not what your favorite Instagram entrepreneur tell you it is either.

Being productive is way more personal than we think.

It depends on our own individual goals and aspirations.

Our goals provide us with the perspective needed to judge our levels of output.

Here’s how:

Person A has been struggling in their personal life, dealing with constant pressure from their family and unstoppable stress. However, they’ve had enough and decided to find a way to reduce their anxiety.

So, their solution was to watch a Marvel movie before bed for a couple of hours because it actually helps them enter a more relaxed state.

But person B is their favorite productivity YouTuber and they said watching TV is unproductive and a waste of time. They don’t know that for person A it is very helpful therefore productive.

Productivity looks different for each and every one of us and it shouldn’t be judged based on what a motivational page on instagram is telling you to do.

That’s why being self-aware should be talked about more than the hacks to be a better you.
