What Gossip Girl Taught Me

Most people think that Gossip Girl is just a bingable teen drama from the early 2000s whose only purpose for existing is for mindless entertainment. The people who think that Gossip Girl has no purpose are wrong.

Gossip Girl is one of my favorite shows to watch. I am not the type of person who rewatches shows but Gossip Girl is the exception that and Catwoman because who doesn't like to see Halle Berry in a leather jumpsuit for two hours.

The characters in the story all go through cycles of getting better and worse in there journeys of self actualization making there struggles relatable and accurate.

In the show Serina is one of the main protagonist. She is fun, loving, and good hearted but is a mess and can’t control herself. She tries so hard to be a better person but always falls before she can reach her goal because of circumstances in her life specifically people.

In the show she has to learn as does all the other characters, even the minor ones, to accept herself for who she is, learn how to say no, learn to be independent and think for yourself and finally learn how to ask for help.

The show taught me how to believe in myself. When I was younger watching the show the person I immediately connected with was Serina Vanderwodson because I saw her not as the pretty, rich, blond girls with blue and a perfect life but as Serina the damaged soul trying to fix herself.

There are many more lessons to learn from this amazing show that lasted 6 seasons but the main point I want you to take away is that life is a journey with many ups and downs and many relapses. But if we never give up on ourselves and surround ourselves with people that truly love and have our best interest at heart than we will get to the promised land
