9 Stereotypes About Men And Women That Are Actually Reversals

So why the stereotypes?

In a modern society where people are often forced into jobs and roles where they are not allowed or invited to express and feel their emotions, people often shut down their emotional processing and use stereotyping as a way to avoid being present with each other.

These stereotypes actually reverse the natural flow of masculine and feminine energy. They perpetuate status quo relationships, misunderstandings and bad sex lives.

The benefit of stereotyping is that if you can convince a man or woman to fit into the stereotypes, you never have to understand them and you can convince them they are wrong for the way they actually feel, and keep them in abusive or manipulative living situations where they don’t really understand their role in the relationship, or even know how to make the relationship better, because they keep trying to live by the stereotype instead of explore how they actually feel.

Career Implications:
Many people hire based on stereotypes as well. A man may be a more likely candidate to get an office job in IT than a woman, even if she has advanced analytical and programming skills because he seems “focused.” based on a photograph, or his name. A woman may be more likely to get a job as a nurse even if she has less skill at nurturing or the emotional depth required to really help someone recover from a devastating injury.

Effects on society:
This is also one of the ways people dismiss important scientific or practical findings from individuals study into life. By looking at someone as a man or a woman through stereotypes they can dismiss a genius out of hand by saying something like “Women don’t make sense.” or “This man was just trying to get a lot of sex.” Because the stereotype isn’t even true, and because it’s so prevalent in society, many of us have trauma around these phrases or accusations and can’t stand up to them. It’s an easy way to knock someone down to size and keep them from really revolutionary lives.
