Time to Get Growing

Some people are having difficulties in distinguishing a horse from a pony and still believe that a pony will grow, like a grown up. This is definitely also reflecting us human beings, no matter in private life or business. In business, for sure, it is all the pretty much the same.

Maybe you did also encounter all the same, when you have had dealings with a firm that used to be a one man show, over the years it grew to an empire, where this firm’s management definitely demonstrated that to grow up is not only about the size of a pony, where we would be expecting a horse, but actually to become who we really are.

When I joined PRSC I did figure that this firm is a small size gap with strong trading routes in retail / HORECA, however, the trades we have handled so far was quite astonishing. There are firms that are riding on a horse, blowing themselves up like a bubble-fish, with high number of employees, offices domestically / overseas, which definitely increases the fix-costs of such firms the trading itself, margins are exactly in between the pony and that huge horse, hence that doesn’t mean that the pony has not grown up yet. Even some people are shorter than the others, which is a fact of life, something we simply cannot avoid or change at all.

The other day I had the most unique chance to visit a horse / pony farm with some friends and I have never thought about contrasting a pony to a horse, while being an Import & Procurement Specialist at a well-nominated Beijing / Shanghai based firm, with extensions in the

UAE, Dubai. In text-books we are always being taught to expand business and grow, risk we have to take to grow larger and to build empires: which is true to some extend, unless we are not feeling right about the time and effort to getting it done.

Truth to be told, especially during the current Covid 19 Issue — where we are all together in this — being quarantined and staying at home, looking through pictures — from the good old days- encouraged me to write today’s article and to share some thoughts and experiences.
